The Newmarket Mills
The first of seven textile mills was built in Newmarket, New Hampshire in 1822 by the Newmarket Manufacturing Company.
The mills produced cotton and silk textiles. The weaving room at the mill was considered the largest in the world, and had over 700 workers and 906 looms. The textile mills operated continuously at this site until 1929.
The mill building have been modernized and now serve as offices, light manufacturing facilities, and residential space.
The granite mill building are among “the most beautiful of all textile factories of the period” and at the best preserved examples in New Hampshire.
